The Bioinformatics and Evolutionary Genomics Lab, headed by Yves Van de Peer, is a centre of excellence in the fields of gene prediction and genome annotation, comparative and evolutionary genomics, and systems biology at the UGent Department of Plant Biotechnology and Bioinformatics and the VIB-UGent Center For Plant Systems Biology. The laboratory is involved in many international genome projects and has a particular interest in genome evolution and gene and genome duplication events. The Lab hosts and maintains an online curation and annotation portal for eukaryotic genomes (ORCAE), where researchers from all over the world have everything at hand to complement the automatically generated gene structures and functions with human curation. ORCAE is also recognised as an ELIXIR Belgium Node service. Yves Van de Peer was Head of Node for the Belgian ELIXIR Node from 2016 until 2019. Currently, he chairs the ELIXIR Belgium Management Board.
