The Comparative Network Biology Lab, led by Klaas Vandepoele, is part of the UGent Department of Plant Biotechnology and Bioinformatics and the VIB-UGent Center For Plant Systems Biology. Their scientific objective is to extract biological knowledge from large-scale experimental data sets using data integration, comparative sequence and expression analysis, and network biology. Through the development of PLAZA, a comparative genomics platform, they have a strong track record in tool development and plant genomics data analysis. This platform serves as an information hub for comparative, functional and evolutionary plant genomics for a large variety of plants, both in academic and industrial research. PLAZA is also recognised as an ELIXIR Belgium Node service and an ELIXIR Recommended Interoperability Resource.
