The VIB Bioinformatics Core, headed by Alexander Botzki, is an institutional service facility from VIB, the life sciences research institute in Flanders. They provide Bioinformatics support in five service pillars: Data Analysis, Training, Scientific Software Development, Software Support, and Informatics Services. Together with ELIXIR Belgium, the VIB Bioinformatics Core has launched the Belgian Research Software Engineers Association, and is heavily involved in organising bioinformatics training courses that contribute to the generation of useful biological knowledge. The offering covers basic and intermediate training to the life sciences research community, focusing on bioinformatics, omics data analysis, programming, and HPC tools. As ELIXIR Belgium Training Coordinator, Alexander leads the establishment of the Node’s Training portfolio, contributes to activities of the ELIXIR Training Platform (BioSchemas and the ELIXIR Training Registry TeSS), and is an active member of the ELIXIR interest group on e-learning.
